The following action steps may aid in reducing the risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs):
Drink more water. This will contribute to more frequent urination and easier removal of germs before an infection develops.
Consider cranberry juice. Scientists are actively researching its effects since most of the data available is anecdotal. Unsweetened cranberry juice is not a proven approach to avoid getting a UTI, but it won’t do any harm either.
Carefully wipe front to back. Taking this motion into consideration after going to the bathroom helps stop the spread of bacteria.
Go to the bathroom after having sex. Emptying your bladder after intercourse may get rid of some bacteria.
Avoid products that may irritate your privates. Steer clear of douches, powders, deodorants, and sprays in the genital area.
Talk to your healthcare provider about changing your contraceptive. Diaphragms, unlubricated condoms, or condoms treated with spermicide encourage bacterial growth.
Always consult your healthcare provider with any questions regarding a medical condition.
